Andrew Williams

Recently retired manager and retained farm advisor

My career began with a job on John Fenton’s arable farm on the outskirts of Ipswich. After 18 months I felt the need to try something completely different and joined the Royal Navy, enjoying two very formative years. I returned to civilian life with a job repairing shipping containers while I searched for a route back in agriculture. Eventually I took up a position with Andy Mayhew at Waldringfield, working there while attending Otley agricultural college & then Walford College in Shropshire to study for a National Certificate in Farm Management. I returned to Andy at the end of the course, taking a role as farm foreman, where I stayed for six years.

Unable to secure a management position on a farm at that time, myself and a good friend set up a contracting business, J&A Farm Services, which we ran until I joined HFN in May 1997 as Farm Manager. I retired from my role as Farms Director from Home Farm Nacton in May 2023 but will continue as an advisor for the farm, to be reviewed after a year.

Jack Smith

Farm Director, AG Wright & Son (Farms) Ltd

Originally from Ludlow in South Shropshire I graduated from Newcastle University in 2010, I held assistant and farm manager roles in the industry before I joined AG Wright & Son (Farms) Ltd as Farms Director in 2019. I now manage 1800ha of farming operations in East Cambridgeshire under various land agreements, growing combinable crops and potatoes on a range of soil types for a variety of markets.

Why Jack is attending the CropTec Show "To share experiences of how we use our data systems and hopefully learn from others in the industry as to how to improve on what we currently do"
