Yorkshire Dales Update from Forage Aid
Forage Aid
It has been just over 2 months since the devastating floods in the Dales and the Forage Aid team have been working hard with local businesses ever since to ensure that forage lost due to the damage could be replaced before the winter set in.
We have been delighted and humbled by the level of donations that have been offered and those donations should more than fill the requirements of the farm businesses affected by the floods in the Dales. We are sure our donors also understand that we couldn’t immediately move their offers of forage onto farms as there is a massive clear up job still ongoing.
Whilst not normally within our charitable remit we have also arranged help with the clear up operation. We were absolutely delighted when several of our charity partners offered huge donations to help with the clear up so that we can accelerate the movement of forage back onto affected farms.
JCB Agriculture donated the use of two new Fastrac tractors and a telehandler with Bailey Trailers and Ripon Farm Services donated two large root trailers which will make a real difference to the on farm tidy up. To make sure the kit keeps moving Certas Energy through Woldmarsh Producers Ltd have donated 3,000 litres of fuel to the operation. This is a fantastic support to Forage Aid and the local businesses, and we thank all these partners for their generosity and desire to help.
It means that we will shortly be able to commence delivery of donated forage into the affected area with deliveries ranging from small pick up bales of hay to large Heston silage bales being moved. If you have donated our team will be back in touch soon to let you know the next steps.
In the meantime, please stay in touch with Forage Aid as we will keep you up to date with delivery progress in the coming weeks and, as ever, please donate to our charity so that we can keep up the positive and proactive work when farming faces difficult times due to extreme weather at the Forage Aid Just Giving page.
A final thank you to all of our supporters who have donated forage, money, machinery or time. We really can’t do all of this without your valuable help and it is fantastic that we continue to see #farmershelpingfarmers.
