John Williams of ADAS to discuss the value of ‘rocket fuel’ (ie. Digestate) at this year’s CropTec show

ADAS principle soil scientist, John Williams, will present “Managing Digestate: What’s its true value and how to use it” as part of the Crop Nutrition seminar held on both days of the Crop Tec show.

Digestate, a by-product of biogas production, is a valuable fertiliser due to its high nitrogen content. Often being referred to as ‘rocket fuel’, it is important to manage applications carefully to maximise the crop benefits and minimise losses to the environment. Accounting for nutrients supplied by applications of organic materials such as digestate is a crucial part of nutrient management planning, which is mandatory under the New Farming Rules for Water.

During his presentation, John will be discussing:

  • Rules and regulations relating to digestate applications
  • Understanding the nutrient content of digestate
  • Importance of application rate – matching nutrient supply to crop demand
  • How to minimise losses
  • Quantifying the crop available nutrient supply
  • How to integrate digestate into farm and field nutrient management plans

To find out more about digestate as a fertiliser, the Crop Nutrition seminar will begin at 11:30 on the 28th and 29th November. John will also join ADAS colleagues on stand 28 in hall 2 where we will focus on soil and crop nutrition.

CropTec is being held at the East of England Showground on 28th & 29th November 2018. The event is free to attend if you pre-register here. For more information please visit www.croptecshow.com.
