Free satellite imagery in crop recording software

SEE IT IN GEOFOLIA ON THE LANDMARK STAND HALL 2, STAND 2.7

Landmark Systems, the rural business software specialist, will be demonstrating Greenscan, a new, free satellite crop analysis imaging feature, which is an integral part of their crop recording software – Geofolia.   Greenscan shows the vegetation index or biomass density of crops on a particular date and growth stage with a colour coded legend for easy interpretation.

The latest version of Geofolia also boasts the new ‘Field Performance Dashboard’ for an instant breakdown of costs by field, and farm, and therefore performance from any smart device with signal.

The mobile app will also carry farm input and end stock levels from the autumn, ideal for a quick check in the field before planning a job with an operator.

Geofolia developed by Isagri, Landmark’s parent company, is well-established in Europe for crop recording and mapping.  UK Geofolia clients appreciate an easy to use crop management tool with mapping for compliance, making better data driven decisions and saving on input costs by focussing on better identification of pests, weeds and diseases.

Early adopter Stephen Eales has been testing Greenscan on his Sussex business J.G. Eales & Sons, a business farming 1200 acres of arable in Sussex.

“‘Greenscan gives you regular satellite images of your crops by measuring light reflected from the crop canopy. Thicker crops can be easily distinguished from thinner crop areas. You can scan your whole farm in a few minutes and identify problems rapidly enabling you to target areas to be inspected closely, for example, wet spots, pigeon grazing and rabbit damage.  Over a season poor crop growth area will show within fields enabling these areas to be noted for nutrient deficiency testing, soil sampling or for subsoiling to remedy soil compaction.”

Popular useful standard features include the ability to import agronomist’s recommendations and a ‘Split Activity’ button – useful for immediate updating of records for example when a weather change interrupts a spraying job.  Geofolia is available as cloud hosted, pc or server install.

The Landmark Team will be demonstrating Geofolia in Hall 2, Stand 2.7 and running a competition to introduce more farmers to Geofolia who want to “spend more time in the field, and less in the office”.
