CropTec Show sponsor applauds “vibrant entrepreneurial spirit” in countryside after being named runner-up in prestigious Rural Business Awards

  • Countryside is a “hotbed” of business innovation and dynamism, according to Charles Mayson of CXCS
  • CropTec show “a great place to network and keep abreast of new developments in agriculture”, according to leading entrepreneur

Entrepreneur Charles Mayson has praised the “innovation and dynamism” of rural businessespeople – and is looking forward to meeting lots of them at the CropTec Show.

“I see a lot of small- and medium-sized rural enterprises that are every bit as creative, efficient and focused on meeting their customers’ requirements as any FTSE-100 firm,” says Charles.

His comments come after CXCS, the firm he founded in 2009, was named runner-up in the ‘Best Rural Professional Services Business’ category of the Midlands finals of the Rural Business Awards 2018/19.

“There are some incredibly entrepreneurial people in the countryside and we’re looking forward to talking to some of them at CropTec. The show is a great place to network and to keep abreast of new developments in agriculture.

“Farming is going through a tough time and there is uncertainty as we head towards Brexit, so farmers and others operating in the rural economy will need to dig deep and draw on their reserves of experience, fortitude and imagination,” he says.

“Whatever other changes we might see, though, there is always going to be a range of legislation that farmers will have to comply with.

“I realised about a decade ago just how time-consuming and stressful completing all this paperwork and successfully navigating inspections could be for farmers who already had a huge amount on their plates. That was why I launched CXCS.

“We help farmers with their paperwork and support them through inspections by bodies such as the Rural Payments Agency and the Environment Agency. We give them advice and reassurance when they need it most – which means they can spend more time farming and less time form-filling.”

CXCS, which employs more than 15 people, is based in a barn conversion at Lyonshall in Herefordshire.

“We’re lucky to be based in a beautiful part of the world which has a very strong farming pedigree, but clients across the country trust us,” says Charles. “That’s a big responsibility, but helping them is immensely satisfying.

“Basically, we do the paperwork so they can get on with the vital business of feeding the nation and looking after our wonderful countryside.”

  • Established in 2009 by Charles Mayson, CXCS offers farmers a host of services, focusing on cross compliance solutions, farm safety, basic payments and farm assurance. We support farmers through many inspections and offer them the peace of mind and comforting knowledge that their documents will be handled and processed accurately and efficiently.
