Weed biologist and leader Smart Crop Protection Project

Paul Neve is a Principal Research Scientist at Rothamsted Research who leads the weed ecology, evolution and management group, as well as the institute’s Smart Crop Protection programme. He graduated from the University of Liverpool with a PhD in weed ecology, before moving to Australia for six years, where he worked within the Australian Herbicide Resistance Initiative at the University of Western Australia. On returning to the UK in 2005, he took up a lecturing position at the University of Warwick, before moving to Rothamsted in 2014. He is the current President of the European Weed Research Society and holds as associate visiting academic position at Colorado State University. Paul’s research is mainly focused on the ecological, evolutionary and agronomic drivers of herbicide resistance; using a range of eco-evolutionary, modelling, field and glasshouse, and epidemiological approaches to understand, mitigate and predict the evolution of resistance.
